I microrganismi presenti nel compost non solo forniscono alle piante un\u2019ampia gamma di nutrienti e oligoelementi, ma le aiutano anche a difendersi da parassiti e malattie.<\/h4>

Questo attivit\u00e0 microbica nella zona radicale <\/strong>stimola la crescita delle piante e ne migliora la salute generale.<\/span><\/h4>

L\u2019apporto di microrganismi attraverso compost di alta qualit\u00e0 contribuisce alla formazione e al mantenimento della struttura del suolo. Il loro lavoro favorisce l\u2019aggregazione delle particelle<\/strong>, il ciclo dei nutrienti e la resistenza alla compattazione, migliorando al contempo aerazione e drenaggio.<\/h4>

Se la produzione di compost solido attraverso il processo di compostaggio a caldo non \u00e8 praticabile \u2013 per l'elevato impiego di manodopera e la quantit\u00e0 richiesta di prodotto necessario \u2013 l\u2019estratto di compost rappresenta un\u2019alternativa efficace<\/strong>.<\/h4>

Il compost solido viene inserito in un sacco di tessuto e immerso in un grande serbatoio d\u2019acqua, dove un flusso d\u2019aria dal basso mantiene la miscela in movimento.<\/h4>

Questo processo trasferisce nell\u2019acqua microrganismi come batteri, ife fungine, amebe e nematodi, generando un estratto liquido.<\/strong>Dopo un breve periodo, l\u2019estratto pu\u00f2 essere applicato direttamente o utilizzato per l\u2019irrigazione in sistemi come orti o uliveti.<\/h4>

Una volta introdotti nel suolo, questi microrganismi arricchiscono la sostanza organica, favoriscono la formazione dell'humus e migliorano l\u2019assorbimento dei nutrienti da parte delle piante.<\/h4>

La preparazione del t\u00e8 compost richiede pi\u00f9 tempo, dalle 24 alle 48 ore, poich\u00e9 prevede l'aggiunta di nutrienti per favorire la moltiplicazione dei microrganismi nel liquido.<\/strong><\/h4>

A differenza dell\u2019estratto di compost, il t\u00e8 di compost ha una funzione specifica. Quando viene spruzzato direttamente sulle piante, crea una pellicola protettiva su steli e foglie<\/strong>, difendendoli da parassiti e malattie, in particolare su foglie e frutti.<\/h4>

Production of solid compost Amoeba Nematode Hyphae Arcella Hyphae Unlike traditional NPK fertilization, which typically involves adding only specific elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium in the form of salts, compost application offers a more holistic approach. The microorganisms in the compost not only supply plants with a full range of nutrients and trace elements, but also help protect them from pests and diseases. This microbial activity around the root zone enhances plant growth and overall health. Adding microorganisms through high-quality compost help building and maintaining soil structure. Their activities promote soil aggregation, nutrient cycling, resistance to compaction, and improve aeration and drainage. The comparison of two fava bean plants – both planted and harvested at the same time, but only one grown with added compost – illustrate this effect very well (see image). Production of liquid compost (extract) If producing enough solid compost through the labor-intensive hot composting process is not feasible – especially for larger areas – compost extract offers a practical alternative. The solid compost is placed in a textile bag and submerged in a large water tank, where air is blown in from below to agitate the mixture. This process transfers microorganisms such as bacteria, fungal hyphae, amoebas, and nematodes from the compost into the water, creating a liquid extract. After a brief period, the extract can be applied directly or used for irrigation in systems like gardens or olive groves. Once introduced, these microorganisms help enrich the soil’s organic matter, supporting soil formation and enhancing nutrient uptake by plants. \u00a0 Production of liquid compost (Compost tea) The process of brewing compost tea is more time-intensive, taking 24 to 48 hours, because it involves adding nutrients to encourage microorganisms to multiply in the liquid. Unlike compost extract, compost tea serves a different purpose. When sprayed directly onto plants, it forms a protective “biofilm” on the stems and leaves, shielding them from pests and diseases, particularly on leaves and fruits. With a high enough concentration of beneficial fungal biomass, compost tea acts as a natural fungicide, helping to prevent or treat most types of fungal infections on plant leaves. Like with solid compost, the same rule of thumb applies to both types of liquid compost (compost extract & compost tea): A complete beneficial micro-biome provides the soil with the right biology responsible for building healthy soils and that will in return generate healthy plants. This way, we increase the natural resilience of the plants, so it can resist diseases better and is consequently less likely to be attacked by pests. Vermicompost Vermicomposting is a process that harnesses the power of specific earthworms, such as Eisenia fetida (red wigglers), to transform organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. These worms thrive in a controlled environment with optimal moisture and balanced pH levels.
